Madhu is of Indian heritage and her family traditions go back to the Indian state of Gujarat. Although born in Kenya, growing up in the UK and now having made New Zealand her adopted home, she has always been passionate about all forms of art originating from India.
Madhu has exhibited her art in Lyttelton and also sold her artworks through the Peninsula Art Auction and online. She is passionate about Indian miniature art and has been tutored by the Indian miniature guru Ajay Sharma who is based in Jaipur, the heart of Indian Miniature paintings and by Vidushini Prasad a renowned Madhubani artist based in Bangalore.
Recently Madhu has become interested in traditional tribal Indian art, of which there are many forms. These forms are predominately localised by regions within India.
Madhu has conducted a Madhubani masterclass at Linwood Gallery and has taken various classes including Paint a Ganesha, Mandalas and has stood in for other tutors as necessary.
Madhu volunteers at Linwood Eastside Gallery, Rei in Lyttelton and New Brighton Art gallery.
When she has some spare time, Madhu makes ethnic bags and jewellery and mandala art.
